Issue Entrepreneurship Project

Using Social Software to Promote International Education

The goal of this project is to help instill a sense of global citizenship in a portion of teen and college-aged students, and ultimately, to increase global/international awareness in the typical US citizen.

Social software is key in this endeavor because such a network will necessarily be dispersed around the globe.

Metro Intl, Global Classroom
Global Classroom expands New York City students’ and teachers’ knowledge of other countries and global issues by sending trained international students and scholars into city schools to share real-life perspectives on their home countries and cultures. Through Global Classroom, international students and scholars learn about the United States by gaining an inside perspective on New York City schools and engaging in meaningful dialogue with schoolchildren and teachers. These classroom-based interactions reduce the potential for misunderstanding and conflict based on racial, ethnic, and cultural differences.

American Council on EducationGlobal Learning for All (GLA)
GLA is rooted in the belief that international and global learning is important for all students—not just an elite few—and should be integral to every degree program. … To achieve this goal, the curriculum must be the major vehicle for international and global learning. Because institutions cannot rely on opportunities outside the classroom to deliver important knowledge to students, particularly adult learners and part-time students, international/global learning must be embedded into the curriculum.
